Am 8. August 2025 blockierten etwa drei Dutzend AktivistInnen gewaltfrei einen Produktionsstandort des größten privaten israelischen Rüstungskonzerns Elbit Systems in Ulm. Sie forderten die Schließung aller Unternehmensstandorte in Deutschland und wiesen mit ihren Transparenten auf die aktive Rolle des Unternehmens beim Völkermord hin: „Völkermord beginnt hier“. Einige der AktivistInnen verwendeten Lockons und Klebstoff, um den Zugang zu blockieren. Die Gruppe von AktivistInnen war entschlossen, die Blockade so lange wie möglich aufrechtzuerhalten, und sah sich polizeilichen Repressionen ausgesetzt. Elbit Systems war das Ziel der internationalen Kampagne „Shut Elbit Down“, die die Schließung der Niederlassungen wegen ihrer Mitschuld an Verbrechen gegen die Menschlichkeit, einschließlich Apartheid und Genozid, forderte.

„Unsere Forderungen sind klar“, sagt eine Sprecherin der Kampagne Shut Elbit Down Deutschland. „Wir wollen, dass Elbit Systems aus Ulm, Koblenz und Berlin – aus Deutschland – verschwindet. Elbit Systems ist ein Hauptlieferant des israelischen Militärs und spielt eine grundlegende Rolle beim andauernden Völkermord. Wir fordern von der deutschen Regierung, diesen nicht länger durch Waffenlieferungen und ihre politische Unterstützung der israelischen Regierung zu befeuern. Wir fordern ein umfassendes Waffenembargo gegen Israel und die sofortige Aufhebung der Blockade des Gazastreifens!“

Elbit Systems ist bekannt für seine Drohnen – 85 % der Drohnen der IOF stammen von Elbit. Das Unternehmen stellt aber auch Munition, Kommunikations- und Überwachungssysteme her. Technologien von Elbit sind in den Merkeva-Panzern installiert, die durch Gaza rollen. Zu den Bomben, Geschossen und Granaten, die Gaza in Schutt und Asche legen, zählt auch Munition von Elbit.

Wie die Sonderberichterstatterin der Vereinten Nationen für die Menschenrechtslage in den besetzten palästinensischen Gebieten, Francesca Albanese, berichtet, ist der anhaltende Völkermord für israelische Unternehmen wie Elbit ein profitables Geschäft. Elbit Systems wurde mit dem israelischen Verteidigungspreis 2024 ausgezeichnet und der Umsatz des Unternehmens stieg 2024 im Vergleich zum Vorjahr um 14 % auf 6,8 Milliarden US-Dollar. Dies ist auch auf den Anstieg der Verkäufe von Munition und Drohnen an Israel zurückzuführen. Der Einsatz ihrer „Produkte” in Gaza wird für den Export in andere Länder vermarktet – als „kampferprobt” und „praxiserprobt”.

Elbit Systems sah sich in mehreren Ländern heftigen Protesten wegen seiner Beteiligung an Verbrechen gegen die Menschlichkeit ausgesetzt. Elbit hat seit 2022 drei seiner Standorte in Großbritannien schließen müssen. Darüber hinaus haben die britische Personalvermittlungsagentur iO Associates und der Immobilienverwalter der Drohnenfabrik von Elbit in Shenstone ihre Zusammenarbeit mit Elbit beendet, und die Versicherungsgesellschaft AXA hat sich vollständig aus dem Unternehmen zurückgezogen. Dies sind nur einige Beispiele dafür, wie erfolgreich die Proteste gegen Elbit bisher waren.

Andere Partnerunternehmen stehen derzeit ebenfalls in der Kritik, darunter die Allianz: Das deutsche Unternehmen Allianz ist nach wie vor an der Versicherung von Elbit-Fabriken beteiligt und hält derzeit Anteile an Elbit.

„Die Stadt Ulm hat eine besondere Verbindung zum Widerstand gegen Völkermordregime. Die Stadt, die behauptet, die Geschwister Scholl, Mitglieder der Weißen Rose, zu feiern, macht ihr gesamtes Vermächtnis zunichte“, schließt der Sprecher der DemonstrantInnen. „Wir rufen den Bürgermeister von Ulm und die Einwohner dazu auf, dem Aufruf der Scholls zur Abschaffung der Maschinerie der Unterdrückung und des Terrors Folge zu leisten, anstatt den Betrieb einer völkermörderischen Fabrik in ihrer Stadt zu unterstützen. Lasst uns Elbit schließen – und alle weiteren Rüstungskonzerne in Ulm und überhaupt.“

ACTIVISTS BLOCK ULM’S FACTORY OF GENOCIDE: “ELBIT TURNS MASS MURDER INTO PROFIT”

On August 8th 2025, about three dozen non-violent activists blocked the entrances of a production site of the largest private Israeli weapons manufacturer Elbit Systems in Ulm. They demanded the closing of all company sites in Germany and their banners pointed to the active role of the company in the genocide: „Genocide starts here“. Some of the activists used lockons and glue to prevent access to the factory. The group of activists keept the blockade for as long as possible until police dismantled it. Elbit System is the target of the international campaign Shut Elbit Down, demanding the closure of their factories for their complicity in crimes against humanity including apartheid and genocide.

“Our demands are clear” says a spokesperson of the campaign Shut Elbit Down Deutschland. “We want Elbit Systems out of Ulm, Koblenz und Berlin — out of Germany. Elbit Systems is a main supplier to the Israeli military and plays a fundamental role in the ongoing genocide. We demand from the German government to stop fueling the genocide with arms deliveries and their political backing of the Israeli government. We demand a comprehensive military embargo against Israel and an immediate lifting of the blockade of Gaza!”

Elbit Systems is known for its drones, with 85% of the IOF’s drones coming from Elbit and facilitating the lion’s share of IAF flight hours, but the company also manufactures ammunition, communications, and surveillance systems. Elbit systems are installed in the Merkeva tanks rolling through Gaza. Among the bombs, projectiles, and grenades that are reducing Gaza to rubble and ashes is ammunition from Elbit.

Elbit Systems was awarded the 2024 Israeli Defense Prize and its revenue rose by 14% to US$6.8 billion in 2024 compared to the previous year. This is also due to the increase in sales of ammunition and drones to Israel. The use of their „products“ in Gaza is marketed for the export to other countries – as „battle proven“ and „field tested“.

Elbit Systems has faced intense protests in several countries for their involvement in crimes against humanity. Elbit has closed three of it sites in the UK since 2022. In addition the British recruitment agency iO Associates and the property manager of Elbit’s drone factory in Shenstone have terminated their cooperation with Elbit, and the insurance company AXA has completely divested from it. These are just some examples of how successful protest against Elbit has been so far. Other partner companies are currently being criticized, such as Allianz: The German company Allianz is still involved in the insurance of Elbit factories and currently owns Elbit shares.

„The city of Ulm has a special connection with resistance with genocidal regimes. The city which claims to celebrate the Scholl siblings, members of the White Rose, is putting their entire legacy to shame“ concludes the spokesperson of the protesters. „We call on Ulm’s mayor and the residents to heed the Scholl’s call to abolish the machine of oppression and terror, rather than supporting the operation of a genocidal factory in their city. Let’s shut Elbit down – and all other war companies in Ulm and in general everywhere.“
